Kolobok

About this book

Kolobok is the first of the Birchwood Tales, a series of Slavic folk tales retold for bedtime and painted in watercolour. Every page carries the whole story in English and in Russian, so one parent can read it one way and a grandparent the other — or the same child can hear it in both. The tale is told in the voice of Yozik, the little hedgehog of the Birch Vale, who watched the whole thing from the ferns and turns up somewhere on every page to be found. This retelling keeps the classic ending — the fox really does catch him — but Babushka and Dedushka come running, and Kolobok rolls home whole and a little wiser.
